Irish Cavers Spoilt for Choice at Annual Event
The wait is almost over as the 29th annual symposium for the Speleological Union of Ireland (SUI) and the Irish Cave Rescue Organisation (ICRO) – SUICRO 2013 – takes place this bank holiday weekend, October 26 & 27.
Cave rescuers and cavers will travel to Doolin, Co. Clare for the event comprising AGMs, workshops, demonstrations, presentations, talks, trade stands and much, much more.
The Irish premiere of award-winning documentary No Place on Earth will also feature, with producer Susan Barnett, who is holidaying in Ireland from America, also attending.
The Irish Cave Rescue Organisation are holding an open day in their rescue store in Doolin on Saturday 26, from 1pm.
Open to members of the public, ICRO personnel will be on hand to show people around the store, answer any questions they may have, and explain about the equipment a cave rescue team use.
Wannabe cavers will also be catered for this weekend, as the Speleological Union of Ireland are running their try-caving events, aimed at giving first-time cavers a chance to safely experience some of Clare’s most beautiful underground caverns, lead by fully qualified cave leaders.
Tony Seddon’s Starless River will be in attendance as well as Richard Ziarnowski’s Over The Ground, if you need to replenish your caving supplies!
If you are interested in SUI’s try-caving events, contact Gaelan Elliffe on [email protected] for all relevant information. All caving gear is provided and this trips are free of charge.
