Wowo 2012: A French/Swiss Expedition to Papua New Guinea

March 9, 2012 / Papua New Guinea, Oceania

After a one month in Papua New Guinea, a team of French and Swiss cavers are happy to report that they discovered 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) of new passage.

At more than 20 kilometers (12 miles) long and 660 meters (2,165 feet) deep, the Wowo cave system is now the longest cave in New Britain, and the second deepest in Papua New Guinea.

A video highlighting the expedition was recently put on YouTube with promises of more footage yet to come.

More information on the expedition can be found on the Wowo 2012 Expedition website.
