Cave tours are set to resume at Slaughter Canyon Cave, one of Carlsbad Caverns National Park‘s most popular ranger-guided cave adventure, this Saturday.

The cave has been closed since fall of 2014 because of flood damage to the trail leading to the cave.

A wild cave lights, paved walkways, or other conveniences, Slaughter Canyon Cave tours are illuminated by only the flashlights and headlamps of rangers and tour members.

Tours will resume Saturday, March 7 at 9 a.m. and will be held every Saturday through May (tour moves to Fridays in late May). Reservations are required and can be made at www.recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777. Groups are limited to 20 participants age 8 and older. There is an additional cost for the ranger-guided tour of $15 per person ($7.50 for age 15 and under).

Slaughter Canyon parking lot and backcountry area opened February 28 for hiking and back country camping. Daily back country camping permits are available in person on a first-come, first-served basis and are not issued in advance.
