Free Cave Tours at National Parks during Veterans Day Weekend
In honor of Veterans Day, Jewel Cave National Monument, Wind Cave National Park, Mammoth Cave National Park and Carlsbad Caverns National Park will be offering free tours beginning Friday, November 11, through Sunday, November 13.
In South Dakota, Jewel Cave will have the Scenic Tour and Discovery Tour available, with the Scenic Tour being conducted at 10:00 and 2:00 and the Discovery Tour at 9:05, 12:45, and 3:45. Wind Cave will have the Garden of Eden Tour route available with tours at 10:00, 1:00, and 3:00.
Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave will be offering free Mammoth Passage tours on Friday and Sunday at 9:45, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30. On Saturday both the self-guided Discovery and guided Mammoth Passage cave tours will be available with the Discovery Tours departing between 10:30 and 1:30 and the Mammoth Passage tours departing at 9:45, 2:30, and 3:30.
As part of the weekend Mammoth Cave will also be featuring a special program, Roots in the Cave – Pioneers of Discovery focusing on cave explorer and World War II soldier Warner P. “Pete” Hanson.
Finally, New Mexico’s Carlsbad Caverns National Park is waiving the fee on its self-guided cave tours throughout the weekend.
All the tours have limited tickets available and offer them on a first-come, first serve basis.
UPDATE: Great Basin National Park will also offer free tours of Lehman Caves, but only to U.S. military veterans and current members of the U.S. armed forces and their families.
