During a two and a half day workshop at Carlsbad Caverns National Park this weekend, a group teachers received training and special tours to help encourage stewardship and educational opportunities in the area’s state and national parks and national forest.

Coordinated by Carlsbad Caverns National Park’s Education Specialist Helen Fields, the workshop saw an international group of eight teachers from Juarez, Mexico, El Paso, Texas, and Carlsbad, New Mexico, pay a visit to visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Living Desert Zoo and Garden State Park, Lincoln National Forest, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

At each location, employees presented special programs to encourage the teachers to discover public lands, specifically highlighting the Chihuahuan Desert, which is common to all participants.

Throughout the workshop, the teachers took part in a number of activities which could easily be adapted to classroom use. At the end of the weekend, all participants will receive a curriculum guide on Carlsbad Caverns National Park curriculum guide as well as other educational brochures and materials.
