Bulgaria Founds New National Caving Organization
Cavers from across Bulgaria met recently to found a new national caving organization, the Bulgarian Caving Society (BSC).
The historic meeting took place at the Krastets Hut in the Central Balkan Mountains on March 28th and involved 26 people from different areas of Bulgaria, including Veliko Tarnovo, Vratsa, Dryanovo, Etropole, Rakitovo, Ruse, Sofia, Tryavna, Targovishte, Chepelare, Red Beach, who either represented themselves or regional caving organizations.
The founders approved the statute of the organization and elected Board of Directors, chaired by Geologist Kamen Bonev, and Supervisory Board with a 3-year term.
Based on collective (regional caving organization) and individual memberships, the new society’s primary objectives are the discovery, research and integrated study of karst and karst features, the protection of natural and artificial caves and other underground cavities, and conservation of listed assets.
The association will also work to promote the cave research, the caves, and the need for conservation and protection as part of our natural and cultural heritage.
The doors of the Bulgarian Caving Society are open to all Bulgarians as well as anyone else who shares in the organizations aims and objectives and would like to work towards their implementation.
