Sinkhole Swallows Florida Man Sleeping In Bed
A 36-year-old Florida man is presumed dead after a sinkhole opened up under his bed as he slept.
Jeffrey Bush, was asleep in his bedroom around 11:00 pm on Thursday February 28th, when the ground opened up beneath his Seffner home and swallowed him.
He was last heard calling for help as the members of his family rushed to his aid.
Entering his room and turning on the light, all that remained was a big hole with his mattress poking out.
Jeremy Bush, Jeff’s younger brother frantically tried to dig out his brother until police arrived and pulled him out of the hole, which continued to collapse.
It swallowed his whole bedroom, his dresser — everything in his room is gone. Jeremy Bush, The Victim’s Brother
Authorities are now concerned that the sinkhole estimated to be 10 meters (30 feet) wide and just as deep, may continue to spread and cause the already unstable house to collapse.
As a precautionary measure, houses on both sides of the damaged structure have been evacuated.
Seffner, a suburb of Tampa is part of an area dubbed “sinkhole alley”. If fact, the area accounts for two-thirds of all the sinkhole-related insurance claims in Florida, a state where sinkholes are already a common occurrence.
