A nine-year old caver has won the prestigious “Adventurer of the Year Award”.

A caver since before she was born, Scout Aulenbach has explored in excess of 80 caves in her short career, even acting as a guide on trips for the last four years.

Her young age and positive attitude key to easing the nerves of prospective underground adventurers. Her passion and knowledge of caves shines through with every trip. She has enabled many people, who would not have otherwise had the experience, to visit caves.

The award was handed out by Trail Dames, an Atlanta-based women’s hiking club, at this summer’s Trail Dames Summit. The national award was one of two presented at the event.

Earlier this spring, Scout along with her mother escorted a group of Trail Dames on a visit to Georgia’s Howard’s Waterfall Cave Preserve.
