Cultural Life of Caves Symposium on This Weekend in Istanbul, Turkey

Cultural Life of Caves From Palaeolithic Shamans to Seven SleepersAn international symposium entitled Cultural Life of Caves From Palaeolithic Shamans to Seven Sleepers takes place this weekend at the Istanbul Research Institute, Pera Museum, Istanbul.

The free event, held in collaboration with the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World of Brown University, runs from January 18-21, 2011 and features an array of researchers from different disciplines who will reflect on the rich cultural life of caves and caved spaces throughout history.

Sessions include such interesting subjects as the archaeology of caves, caves and the long-term engagements with place, cave stories, cave mythologies, man-made caves and holy caves and the healing waters of Istanbul.
