2011 Rio Encantado Puerto Rico Expedition

November 15, 2011 / Puerto Rico, North America

A video recently put online features Rio Encantado Puerto Rico 2011, a joint expedition between American, Polish and Puerto Rican cavers.

The goal of the expedition was to make a connection between Escalera and Zumbo caves, both of which are part of Sistema del Rio Encantado. After some swimming and navigating some muddy crawls they succeeded taking the total length of the system to 21 kilometers (13 miles) long and 344 meters (1,128 feet) deep.

If that wasn’t enough, the group then tackled the Sistema Vientos which shares a resurgence with the Sistema del Rio Encantado. They found a few leads and are looking to continue exploration on the next expedition.
