A new rappelling and rock climbing area is slated to open at Carter Caves State Resort Park this Thursday, July 2nd.

Expanding on their list of activities, which already includes cave tours, hiking, boating and fishing, climbing anchors have been installed in a cliff side along the Three Bridges Trail.

This free, self-guided activity is open to guests at the park, however anyone using the area must register at the lodge for a permit and follow a few rules — things like, only climbing during daylight hours, not climbing alone and using only the existing anchors for rigging.

In addition, climbers need to be experienced, must also bring their own equipment and anyone aged 17 and under must have a parent or guardian sign for them.

We’re glad to add this new adventure activity area at Carter Caves, which already offers so many outdoor activities to guests. This climbing and rappelling venue will attract more people to Carter Caves and this area. Elaine Walker, Parks Commissioner

The climbing area will be open at 2:00pm on July 2nd following an opening ceremony at 1:00pm.
