A teenage caver required assistance today after becoming stuck in a Yorkshire Dale’s cave.

The 16-year-old boy was negotiating a side passage in Thistle Cave when he got his knee firmly jammed in a crack.

Members of Clapham’s Cave Rescue Organisation were called to the scene just before 2:00 pm, in their second call out to the cave in recent weeks.

On Tuesday July 9th, CRO members were called to aid a 13-year-old boy, also with his knee jammed in a crack. Fortunately before they arrived, the boy was freed by his fellow cavers.

Today’s call out wasn’t so simple, and required the use of plugs and feathers to remove some rock and free the teen.

Once freed, he was then assisted to the surface and, after further medical checks, transported to his group’s minibus.
