Rope Training Held for Staff at Carlsbad Caverns

Employees at Carlsbad Caverns National Park recently had the opportunity to take part in technical rope training.

Held this past December in the park’s visitor center, the employees, instructed by experienced caver and one of the cave specialists in the park, Tom Bemis, first familiarized with the equipment before suiting up and practicing ascending.

Although the guided cave tours at the park do not require the highly technical rope skills, staff were encouraged to take part in the training to give them skills the skills to participate in future cave exploration, research, search and rescue, and/or vertical caving opportunities.
