The Broughton Game Show, an annual fundraiser of Cave Rescue Organisation and Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, has been permanently called off.

The announcement follows this summers cancellation of the event due to a conflict with the Olympic Torch Relay passing through nearby Skipton.

Organizers of the event cited rising insurance costs, increased demands for health and safety and unpredictable weather as the chief causes for the demise of the popular event.

The rising costs had become so high that the funds required to put on the event had threatened to surpass the amount raised.

We hope the public will understand the reasons behind this difficult decision and would like to thank them for their support, and also the many volunteers not directly connected with the rescue teams, without whom it could never have happened, Chris Baker, trustee of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue

Since it was first staged in 1978, the event has raised a total of around £325,000 for the two cave rescue groups.
