Many caving groups put on events from time to time. As expected some are much better than others.
Organization and planning are key, but so to are more difficult factors to control such as the weather and attendance.
From the collective experiences of the Caving News readership, let’s try to assemble a list of the top five must attend caving events.
Please take a moment to share your favorite event experiences with us in the comments section below.

MVOR. Dog-friendly, kid-friendly, not too big, not too small. Rain is expected, so it never ruins anyone’s plan.
The best caving event is Mexpeleo. Unfortunately, there have only been 4 of these in the past 23 years, that I know of. Good camping, good food, excellent caves in walking distance of campground, excellent camaradarie between the cavers, good weather, and good swimming if you like underground rivers, and the previous events have been inexpensive. Unfortunately, there are allegedly some travel safety issues in Mexico.
Discounting the ICS/NSS Convention a few years ago the Texas Cavers Reunion is the even that brings cavers together from around the country due to its central location. It is just plain awesome as well.
Indiana Cave Capers has always been my favorite caving event
The Sewanee Mountain Grotto’s Cave Fest…! It’s our annual fundraising event to raise money for the conservation and exploration of caves. 100% of the proceeds raised from the event goes right back into the caving community. The annual labor day weekend party includes a live band, hot tub, sauna, big pot luck dinner and best of all a really great AUCTION. This year we received donations for our auction from vendors such as Petzl, The NSS Bookstore, On Rope 1, Inner Mountain Outfitters, Keson, Brunton, CMI, Karst Sports, PMI, Rite in the Rain, Coleman, Eagle’s Nest Outfitters, and even artists Carolina Shrewsbury & Jerry Wallace. This year our event raised just over $5,000…!
