Sanctum Writer-Producer Killed in Helicopter Crash

Sanctum Movie PosterA helicopter crash near Nowra, 129 kilometers (80 miles) south of Sydney, Australia has claimed the lives of it’s two occupants, world-renowned documentary filmmakers Andrew Wight and Mike deGruy.

A respected SCUBA and cave diving instructor, pilot Andrew Wight produced over 45 films during his career, including television documentaries, live television specials, and 3D Imax films.

Wight’s 2011 triller Sanctum was his second attempt to bring to life to his own near-death experience while caving under the Nullarbor Plains in 1988. His first attempt being the 1989 documentary Nullarbor Dreaming.

His passenger, Mike deGruy, was a former marine zoologist and experienced diver who was known for his underwater cinematography.

The pair were believed to have been working together on a documentary about Papua New Guinea.
