Entirely devoted to research on ice caves, the 5th International Workshop on Ice Caves: IWIC-V will be taking place from September 16th to 23rd, 2012.

Following past workshops in Romania, Slovak Republic, Russia, and Austria, Barzio, Italy will now host the event.

Organized by the Glacier, Firn, and Ice Caves Commission of the International Union of Speleology, and the Italian Glaciological Committee the conference will act as an ideal opportunity to discuss ongoing research efforts and increase international cooperation.

With the official language of the workshop being English, it is in an ideal position to widen the availability of important research results formerly published only in non-English papers.

The general themes of next years event are:

  • Cave glaciology/ice dynamics
  • Cave meteorology/climatology
  • Cryo-mineralogy and cryo-crystallography
  • Paleoclimatology and global change
  • Chemistry and geochemistry of ice caves
  • Ica cave management and technology

Pre-registration is open until February 28th, 2012. For more information or to register, visit the 5th International Workshop on Ice Caves website or check out the first circular (PDF).
