BCRA Launches Cave Archaeology Group
The British Cave Research Association (BCRA) has just launched its brand new special interest group, the Cave Archaeology Group (CAG).
Created to promote interest and understanding of archaeology in and around caves, the group is targeted at cavers who regularly visit and explore caves and are in a position to identify archaeological or paleontological material within cave environments
CAG has come about following the achievements of the Upland Caves Network, a group of experts and interested parties drawn from various areas of discipline within cave research, which was created with a finite two-year lifespan.
The goal of the group is to provide support for folks wanting advice, information or other help with potential archaeological material found in caves. In time, the hope is that the group will develop to “include guided site visits, lectures, and the dissemination of information on cave archaeology projects”.
With the success of the group largely depending on the level of interest and support shown by those with an interest in cave archaeology, anyone who is interested should check out the new Cave Archaeology Group’s website or contact John Howard, the CAG co-ordinator.
