The next Field Meeting of the British Cave Research Association will explore the limestone landscapes of Whitbarrow in southern Lakeland.

Scheduled for April 25th, 2015, this field meeting will involve a walk of about 8 kilometers (5 miles) to the Whitbarrow limestone outcrop. Known for its superb karst features, the walk will visit various features of the outcrop include limestone pavements, caves, mine levels as well as geological, glacial and hydrological features.

Attendees will be provided with a copy of a new BCRA Cave Studies Series booklet, Exploring the Limestone Landscapes of the Cumbrian Ring, written by Dr. Phillip Murphy of the University of Leeds who will be leading the days excursion.

Although a detailed program is still in preparation, the event is expected to last from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Attendees will meet at the hamlet of Millside, off the A590 between Levens and Lindale, southern Lakeland and should provide their own lunch packs and refreshments.

There will be a small charge of £6.00 (£3.00 for BCRA members), payable on the day.

Pre-registration for the Field Meeting is essential and should be made by emailing the meeting secretary, Dr. Trevor Faulkner by Friday 10 April 2015 at the latest, although earlier indications will be appreciated.

BCRA re-launched cave science field meetings in 2008 and participants have enjoyed many successful events since then.
