Watch: A Mysterious Collapsed Lava Tube Draining Oregon’s Lost Lake

A six-foot (two-meter) wide lava tube that opened up beneath Oregon’s Lost Lake causes it to dry up every summer when the rate of rainfall cannot keep up with the drain.

It is thought that the water entering the lava tube seeps into the subsurface below and refills a massive aquifer which feeds springs on both sides of the Cascades.
