Carlsbad Caverns‘ Slaughter Canyon Cave parking lot and camping areas will be closed from January 13-24, 2015 due to a project that will see the gate at the cave’s opening replaced with a new one.

The parking lot and camping areas at Slaughter Canyon will remain closed for two weeks while park staff removes the old gate and installs the new one. Removal and delivery of the gates will be done using a helicopter. The staging area for all materials will be the parking lot at the trailhead.

Camping in Slaughter Canyon will resume once the project is completed.

Slaughter Canyon Cave has been closed since torrential rains damaged the hiking trail, about 800 meters (0.5 miles) up to the mouth of the cave, making it unsafe. That cave tour is slated to resume in late spring.

I am trying to find out if there are camping accommodations opened and if the Carlsbad cave is still open?
