Hidden Earth 2013: UK’s National Caving Conference is Coming Soon
Hidden Earth, the UK’s national caving conference and exhibition, is scheduled this year from September 27th – 29th at the Monmouth Leisure Centre in South Wales, the same location where it was held two years ago.
The event, hosted by the British Cave Research Association and the British Caving Association, features expedition and science lectures, meetings, workshops, competitions and contests, while the exhibition area will house trade and club stands as well as photo and art displays.
This year, in addition to the usual Closed Loop Survey Contest, the BCRA’s Cave Surveying Group has organised two new survey drawing competitions this year; one for printed surveys and one for digital surveys that have been uploaded to the BCA survey data repository. The two winners will receive Disto X310, donated by Leica Geosystems.
Another special prize this year, goes to the best color or monochrome print with a mining or man-made underground. Moore Books has donated is £75.00 ($117.00 USD) worth of mining books for first place, and £25.00 ($40.00 USD) for the runner up.
Finally, a number of competitions will be held including a Speleo-Olympics, whose winners receive a bottle of champagne and their names on the trophy, a prusik race, and an SRT assault course.
