Swimmer Trapped in Cave Rescued by Firefighters
Firefighters came to the aid of a swimmer on Saturday after he became trapped in a cave by high surf on the west shore Hawaii’s big island.
The rescuers responded to the emergency call just after 5:00 pm at a rocky section of coastline near Kona known as the End of the World.
The man’s wife told them her husband had tried to get out of the water after a swim, but was pushed back in the water by waves and ended up in a small cave at the bottom of the cliff.
Eventually three firefighters using a rescue boat were able to reach the man who, after being brought to safety, was taken to Kona Community Hospital by ambulance in stable condition.
