Carlsbad Caverns National Park is looking for local singers to take part in the annual Rock of Ages historic cave tour.

First held in 1929, the tours culminated in a ceremony in front of a monolith of stone dubbed the Rock of Ages. During the ritual a park ranger would turn out all the lights and the hymn, for which the formation named, was sung by the group.

Although the tours were discontinued in 1944, the park has since resurrected the popular tradition, which continues today.

In recent years, Park Ranger Paula Bauer filled the post as musical lead, however with her moving on to a new position, the park is left searching for replacement singers to fill the void.

Auditions, open to solo performers as well as small ensembles, have been scheduled for Saturday, December 1st at 6:00 pm.

Anyone wanting more information or is interested in auditioning for one of the three scheduled Rock of Ages historic cavern tours on December 14th, 15th and 16th, please contact Park Ranger, Pam Cox at 575-785-3131.
