Deep Sinkhole Opens Next to Colorado Highway

A deep sinkhole opened up on Monday next to U.S. Route 24 at Colorado’s Tennessee Pass.

Reported by the Colorado Department of Transportation at about 6 to 9 meters (20 to 30 feet) wide and approximately 13 meters (45 feet) deep, the sinkhole took out part of the shoulder.

Although engineers have determined that highway is safe for use, they have closed one lane while they observe the sinkhole to see if anything changes during the next few days.
