Poll: How much money do you spend on caving each year?

Earlier today we were contacted by Hazel Barton, who is writing a chapter on White-nose Syndrome for the book with the American Society for Microbiology.
In order to find out how much of an impact WNS has had on cave-related tourism in the US, she was wondering if how much money cavers spend on caving each year.
Happy to oblige such a good cause, we set up today’s poll to ask just that.

Last week’s poll which asked readers if they thought WNS could kill caving in North America was one of our closest ever.
Despite “no” pulling into the lead at the end, it is awfully scary that for the majority of the week, “yes” was winning. Add to that, the fact that “no” only received 54% of the vote, it seems that caving, the activity we all love, could definitely be in trouble.
We will ask this question again next spring to see if people’s feelings have changed.

I’m a skinflint when it comes to caving kit, I’ll wear stuff out, recycle it for digging kit, or just plain kill stuff!
More money for BEER after caving that way!!
(mind you I do owe SWHMBO a new light as hers got washed off my hardhat a week ago!! so, this year’s budget will go up a bit!!)
Most of my spending is on travels; this year being somewhat extreme for me with trips both to Laos and (in July) to Swaziland. Also some of the equipment I buy for the trips are only remotely caving related, like camera, but still part of my caving…
