Jewel Cave Keeps Getting Longer
This past weekend’s trip to Jewel Cave has extended it a further 500 meters (1,640 feet) for a grand total in excess of 247 kilometers (153.5 miles). This success comes less than a month after the February 26th visit when cavers surveyed 660.88 meters (2,168.25 feet).
A group of 4 cavers spent 17 hours in the cave following up leads in the “Ant Farm” area from past visits this past February and August.
Most of the new passages are on the edge of the current survey and exhibit good airflow. One of them is over 18 meters (60 feet) high and 6 meters (20 feet) wide.
